Scripps quarterly profit rises
NEW YORK, April 24 (Reuters) - Publisher and television broadcaster E.W. Scripps Co. (SSP.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday its quarterly profit rose about 22 percent fueled by strength at its TV networks and its Shopzilla comparison shopping Web business.
First-quarter net income was $84.1 million, or 51 cents a share, compared with $68.5 million, or 42 cents a share, for the same period in 2007.
Scripps publishes several U.S. newspapers, including the Rocky Mountain News in Denver and the Corpus Christi Caller-Times in Texas. It also owns Home & Garden Television (HGTV) and the Food Network. (Reporting by Franklin Paul; Editing by Derek Caney)
