Czech Temelin to reconnect Unit 2, plans new closure

PRAGUE, June 28 (Reuters) - Czech nuclear power plant Temelin will reconnect its Unit 2 to the grid on Saturday night but plans to shut down its Unit 1 for refuelling at the end of July, owner CEZ (CEZPsp.PR) said on Saturday.

Unit 2, one of two 1,000 megawatt blocks at the station, had been closed for refuelling since early May.

"Preparation works are going on to connect Unit 2 to the grid in the night from Saturday to Sunday," Temelin spokesman Marek Svitak said.

Temelin's second unit would be reconnected at 50 percent of output and should reach 100 percent in the middle of next week.

"We will also close the Unit 1 for nearly three months at the end of July due to regular refuelling," Svitak said. (Reporting by Martin Dokoupil; Editing by Alan Raybould)
