DUBAI, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Nissan's (7201.T) sales in the first 10 days of October where the worst ever and it is planning for the worst in Western Europe, Japan and the United States, a senior official said.

"The first 10 days of October were the worst ever levels anyone can remember," said Colin Dodge, senior vice-president.

The Japanese carmaker did have better fortunes in China where sales grew 40 percent in September but it still planned to take a cautious approach in coming months.

"We will be careful in the next few months until (there is a) more forecastable outlook."
