MUMBAI, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse (CSGN.VX) on Friday appointed a Merrill Lynch MER.N banker as managing director in its India investment banking team, a month after poaching three bankers from rivals.

Credit Suisse, which is strengthening its India investment banking coverage, said Pankaj Kalra would cover large clients in energy, industrial and telecoms sectors where there was increasing mergers and acquisitions and capital raising activity.

Kalra was earlier a director in the general industries investment banking group at DSP Merrill Lynch, the Indian unit of Merrill Lynch, since July 2006.

The Swiss bank in August named Sughosh Moharikar as managing director responsible for mergers and acquisitions business. Moharikar came from domestic brokerage Kotak Mahindra.

It also hired Samita Shah from Lehman Brothers LEH.N as managing director for emerging large client coverage and Ashim Ahuja from Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE) as director. (Reporting by Narayanan Somasundaram; Editing by Ranjit Gangadharan)
