AMSTERDAM, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Aviva Plc's (AV.L) Dutch insurance unit has about reached a compensation deal with lobby groups about insurance products, the unit said on Tuesday, and the deal could serve as an example for other Dutch insurers.

Information about some Dutch insurance products was not adequate and significant portions of premiums were not invested but were lost on costs and commissions, Dutch market regulator AFM said in 2006.

Delta Lloyd, part of UK insurer Aviva, said in a statement that talks about a financial compensation were in final stages, and Delta Lloyd and two consumer lobby groups planned to give details about the agreement on Wednesday.

Delta Lloyd's deal could cost more than 300 million euros ($424 million), while total costs for the whole industry could be 6 billion euros, Dutch news agency ANP said last week, citing sources. A Delta Lloyd spokeswoman declined to comment.

Total costs could be a few billion euros, a spokesman for a group for Dutch insurers, Verbond van Verzekeraars, told ANP last week, but the lobby group declined to comment on the Delta Lloyd deal, saying it wanted more details.

The deal should serve as an example for other Dutch insurers to regain confidence in the industry, Dutch Finance Minister Wouter Bos said on Dutch TV channel RTL Z before Delta Lloyd announced the deal.

"If one insurer now shows how it should be done, others need to follow suit," Bos said.

Dutch financial services group ING (ING.AS) has made a provision to resolve issues over certain products with consumer groups, ING said in February.

Dutch lobby group Stichting Woekerpolis has asked compensation for a product of Dutch unlisted Rabobank [RABN.UL], but the bank has denied that it misled clients. ($1=.7076 Euro) (Reporting by Gilbert Kreijger)
