Putin chief of staff among Moscow mayor candidates

MOSCOW, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Russia’s ruling party on Saturday named four candidates, including Vladimir Putin’s chief of staff Sergei Sobyanin, to replace sacked Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov, Russian news agencies reported.

President Dmitry Medvedev is to choose one of the four candidates proposed by Putin’s United Russia party to lead the Russian capital, which accounts for about one-fifth of the country’s economy.

Media and political analysts have described Sobyanin as the most likely choice. (Reporting by Steve Gutterman; Editing by Conor Humphries)
