UPDATE 1-China's Sany Heavy to invest $200 mln in Indonesian plant

(Adds details)

JAKARTA, April 25 (Reuters) - Sany Heavy Industry , a Chinese maker of construction machinery, will invest $200 million to build a factory to produce heavy equipment in Indonesia, a government official in the Southeast Asian country said on Monday.

The new factory will produce equipment such as excavators and the company has already bought 10 hectares of land in Cikarang, West Java, said Agus Tjahajana Wirakusumah, director general of international industrial cooperation at the Industry Ministry.

Tjahajana said the factory would employ about 1,500 workers.

“The factory will have production capacity of 1,000 units a year,” he told reporters.

The country recorded foreign direct investment of 39.5 trillion rupiah ($4.6 billion) in the first quarter of 2011, up 11.6 percent from the same period last year, thanks to strong economic growth and rich natural resources that have attracted investors.
