EU permits Siemens purchase of Dade Behring

BRUSSELS, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Germany’s Siemens AG (SIEGn.DE) won permission from the European Commission on Thursday to buy lab equipment company Dade Behring Holdings DADE.O for $7 billion.

Siemens is buying Dade Behring to bolster its medical equipment division.

The Commission said in a statement that its market investigation showed that “the horizontal overlaps between the activities of Siemens and Dade Behring would not allow them to increase prices for laboratories and consumers”.

The Commission said customers and competitors identified a large number of alternative immunochemistry test firms in a position to replace Siemens.

U.S. antitrust authorities approved the deal on Sept. 17.
