Red Wings sign Cleary to five-year extension
DETROIT (Reuters) - The Detroit Red Wings and Dan Cleary agreed to five-year contract extension worth a reported $14 million, the NHL's top team said on Tuesday.
Sidelined since February 9 with a broken jaw, right wing Cleary had been enjoying his best NHL season before the injury, matching career highs with 20 goals and 40 points.
"We're very pleased to have Dan continue as a member of the Red Wings for the next five years," said Detroit general manager Ken Holland in a statement. "He's found a home with our team and city and at 29 years of age, we feel he is just beginning to hit the prime of his career."
In his 10th NHL season Cleary has 84 goals and 207 points in stints with the Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes and Red Wings.
