Pro Bowl running back Westbrook agrees to six-year deal

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Running back Brian Westbrook has agreed to a six-year deal to remain with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team's Web site said Friday.

Westbrook, 28, will make a guaranteed $21 million over the next three seasons with the figure potentially rising depending on his performance, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The six-year NFL veteran had signed a five-year extension worth $24.9 million in 2005, but was in negotiations for a pay raise comparable to that of other high-profile backs.

"It was very important," Westbrook told reporters. "I wanted to try to get this thing behind me so I could focus more on the season."

Westbrook is known for his versatility, able to make plays in both running and catching the ball. He led the league with 2,104 yards from scrimmage last season, and has been one of quarterback Donovan McNabb's favorite targets over the last four years.

The veteran running back has posted 1,000-yard rushing seasons in each of his last two campaigns.
