NEW YORK (Reuters) - Brendan Shanahan's overtime goal sparked the New York Rangers to a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday.

Chris Drury sent the game into overtime with a third-period goal before assisting on Shanahan's winner as the Rangers won their third in a row.

Drury slid a centering pass into the slot and Shanahan shot high past Montreal netminder Cristobal Huet.

"There was a turnover at our blue line and I turned up the ice," Shanahan told reporters. "At first I thought maybe we would have a 2-on-1, but I didn't see anyone between me and the net. Drury just laid it over for me and let me walk into it."

The goal was the 641st of Shanahan's career, moving him into 11th place on the NHL's all-time goals list.

Dan Girardi and Jaromir Jagr also scored for New York, which gave up two second-period goals to trail 3-2.

"The second period was kind of awful," Shanahan said.

"We were able, in the third period, to come out and kind of get that feeling that you're back involved in the game again."

Andrei Kastsitsyn tallied twice for Montreal with powerplay goals.

Tomas Plekanec scored the Canadiens' other goal, striking in the second period to give his team a 3-2 lead.

Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist made 18 saves for the victory.

* Dustin Brown scored his second goal 3:31 into overtime and the Los Angeles Kings overcame a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 road victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, who had a four-game win streak snapped.

* Derian Hatcher scored the game's only goal as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Florida Panthers 1-0 behind Antero Niittymaki's first shutout of the season. Niittymaki stopped 38 shots for the win.

* Matt Cooke's second-period goal paced the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 home victory over the Anaheim Ducks.
