NEW YORK (Reuters) - New Orleans coach Byron Scott has agreed in principle to a contract extension, the Hornets said on their Web site on Wednesday.

The extension will keep Scott, the NBA coach of the year, under contract for two additional years, The Times-Picayune of New Orleans reported on its Web site (www.NOLA.com).

"We are really growing into something special and there is no other place I would rather be," Scott said in a statement released by the Hornets (www.hornets.com).

Scott led New Orleans to its first Southwest Division title and a record 56 wins. The team finished the season 56-26, the second-best record in the Western Conference.

They made it to the conference semi-finals before being eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs in Game Seven.
