Jagr signs for Russian SuperLeague club
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Czech forward Jaromir Jagr signed a three-year contract on Friday with Russian SuperLeague club Omsk Vanguard, the team said on its website (www.hawk.ru).
Jagr, 35, left the New York Rangers on Thursday after three full seasons at Madison Square Garden, including 2005-06 when he scored 123 points and finished second in the Hart Trophy voting.
Jagr's salary at Vanguard was not disclosed, but local and international media have reported the team, sponsored by gas monopoly Gazprom, will pay the Czech international $35 million for two years plus an option to extend by one.
Jagr played for the "Hawks" during the NHL strike, and became a fan-favorite in Omsk, 2,700km (1,700 miles) east of Moscow.
