Canas beats Delic to reach last four in Vegas
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Fourth seed Guillermo Canas, bidding for an eighth ATP title, booked his place in the Las Vegas Open semi-finals by beating American qualifier Amer Delic 6-4 6-4 on Friday.
The 30-year-old Argentine, playing in his second ATP event of the year after coming back from a wrist injury, brerve twice to seal victory in a match that lasted one hour and 20 minutes.
Canas, the only seed left in the tournament, will meet unseeded American Sam Querrey, who beat Frenchman Julien Benneteau 7-5 6-2
"It's not normal for only one seed to make the quarter-finals but it's tough to play in the ATP," Canas told reporters. "In the ATP, anyone can beat anyone."
American wildcard Robby Ginepri swept past Latvia's Ernests Gulbis 6-1 6-2 in less than an hour to reach the last four for the third time this year.
The 25-year-old, a former world number 15 who has slipped to 111th, previously advanced to the semi-finals in Delray Beach and San Jose.
