BOSTON (Reuters) - The Boston Red Sox placed Curt Schilling on the 60-day disabled list on Thursday and do not expect the right-hander to return to the starting rotation until after the July All-Star break.

No timetable has been given for the 41-year-old pitcher's return from a right shoulder injury that may yet require surgery, the 2007 World Series winners said on their Web site (www.redsox.mlb.com).

Schilling is expected to join the Red Sox next week for their trip to Tokyo, where they will open the season against the Oakland Athletics.

Right-handed reliever Lincoln Holdzkom, who has been brought back to the organization as a free agent, takes over Schilling's spot in the roster.
