FACTBOX: Cycling-Tour de France 2006 winner Oscar Pereiro
(Reuters) - Factbox on Oscar Pereiro who was presented with the yellow jersey as the winner of the 2006 Tour de France in Madrid on Monday after American Floyd Landis was stripped of the title following a positive dope test.
* Born near Pontevedra in Galicia, Spain on August 3, 1977.
* Begins professional career with Portuguese outfit Porta da Ravessa in 2000 and goes on to sign for the Swiss-based Phonak team in 2002.
* Finishes in 11th place in the Giro d'Italia in 2002 and 10th in his debut in the Tour de France in 2004. Wins the 16th stage of the 2005 Tour from Mourenx to Pau on his way to finishing 10th overall again.
* Joins the Caisse d'Epargne outfit in 2006 and takes part in that year's Tour as lieutenant to Alejandro Valverder. Takes over team leader when the Spaniard breaks his collarbone in a fall.
Grabs the race lead from former Phonak team mate Landis on the 13th stage when he joins a breakaway that finishes almost 30 minutes ahead of the American.
However, Landis stages an incredible comeback on the last mountain stage and overhauls Pereiro in a time trial on his way to claiming victory in the race.
* Landis tests positive for synthetic testosterone but Pereiro is not awarded race victory until September 2007 after the American Arbitration Association upholds a two-year ban
* Pereiro is cleared of a doping offence in the 2006 Tour after traces of the anti-asthma drug salbutamol are found in a urine sample when the world cycling body the UCI says he had an exemption to use the drug.
* Pereiro is the sixth Spaniard to win the Tour de France, after Federico Bahamontes, Luis Ocana, Pedro Delgado, Miguel Indurain and this year's victor Alberto Contador.
