Bode Miller releases staff after winning World Cup
BORMIO (Reuters) - Bode Miller has released all his staff following his overall World Cup title, one of his former employees said on Saturday.
The maverick, who skied as an independent this season after pulling out of the U.S. team, told most of his staff that their current contracts would not be renewed.
Employee Robi Kristan told Reuters that Miller had asked him to stay and be both his slalom and downhill technician.
Kristan told the 30-year-old he could not accept the new deal because it would be too much work.
Some of the staff may be rehired on a part-time basis, Kristan added.
Miller, who lives in a motorhome during the ski season, is famous for his unorthodox skiing and lifestyle but it did not stop him winning the overall title in 2005 and repeating the feat in Bormio this week.
He was not able to compete in Saturday's slalom, the final race of the season, because of an injured hand.
