NEW YORK (Reuters) - General manager Wayne Krivsky was sacked by the struggling Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday and replaced by former St Louis Cardinals executive Walt Jocketty.

Club president Bob Castellini said in a news release that Jocketty would be promoted from his role as special advisor to become general manager and president of baseball operations.

Cincinnati have made a stuttering 9-12 start to the season and are battling to stay out of the National League Central division basement.

Jocketty spent the last 13 years in St Louis building the Cardinals into a National League powerhouse.

Under Jocketty the Cardinals won the NL Central division six times, the NL championship twice and the 2006 World Series.
