(Reuters) - Factbox on Astana rider Alexander Vinokourov, who failed a dope test after winning Saturday's stage of the Tour de France, his team announced on Tuesday.

Born: September 16, 1973 in Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan

* Turned professional in 1998 with the Casino team and has 46 career victories including the 2006 Tour of Spain.

* Wins the Dauphine Libere in 1999 and takes the silver medal at the Sydney Olympics a year later. Riding for Team Telekom, he wins the 2001 Tour of Germany and the 2002 Paris-Nice stage race.

* After retaining his Paris-Nice title and winning the Amstel Gold race, Vinokourov makes his debut in the 2003 Tour de France, finishing third overall behind Lance Armstrong and taking one stage victory. He wins two stages of the 2005 Tour and is fifth overall.

* Vinokourov's Astana-Wuerth team is forced to withdraw on the eve of the 2006 Tour de France after five of his team mates are implicated in a doping scandal. He recovers from the setback to win three stages of the 2006 Tour of Spain on his way to overall victory.

* Lines up for the 2007 Tour de France as favorite and overcomes a bad crash in the first week of racing to win the 13th stage, an individual time trial, and the 15th stage.

* A day later, Astana announce that Vinokourov has failed a dope test taken after Saturday's time trial victory. He is sacked by the team and they pull out of the Tour.
