Outfielder Bradley joins Padres
SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - San Diego has acquired outfielder Milton Bradley from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for pitcher Andrew Brown, the Padres said on Friday.
The switch-hitting Bradley had agreed a one-year, $4 million deal in the off-season with Oakland, who will give the Padres money to cover part of what he is owed.
San Diego has designated pitcher Sean Thompson for assignment to make room for Bradley on their 40-man roster.
The 29-year-old Bradley played in 19 games for Oakland this season, hitting .292 (19-for-65) with four doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, six runs scored and eight walks.
He was designated for assignment on June 21.
In 649 major league games, Bradley has hit .271 (625-for-2309) with 133 doubles, 12 triples and 70 homers.
His career has also included spells with the Montreal Expos (2000-2001), Cleveland Indians (2001-2003) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2004-2005).
