Jets sign free agent running back Chatman

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The New York Jets have signed unrestricted free agent running back Jesse Chatman from the Miami Dolphins, the Jets said on Tuesday.

Chatman, a short, stocky veteran of five NFL seasons, joins the Jets after recording career highs in rushing yards, receptions and receiving yards with Miami in 2007.

He ended the season with 515 yards rushing and a touchdown on 128 carries, and 161 receiving yards on 27 receptions. Chatman had his best game against the Buffalo Bills in November when he ran for 124 yards on 27 carries.

Chatman, who has also played for San Diego and New Orleans, has also contributed on special teams, where he has made 34 tackles and run back eight kickoff returns for 151 yards.
