Browns tie Lewis to new three-season deal
MIAMI (Reuters) - The Cleveland Browns have agreed terms on a three-season contract extension with running back Jamal Lewis, the club announced on Thursday.
The deal means that Lewis, 28, who helped the Browns to their first winning season in six years, will be with the team until the end of 2010.
"I said all year long that I wanted to get a long-term deal done to stay in Cleveland and it looks like with this new contract I will be able to finish my career as a Brown," said Lewis.
Atlanta-born Lewis played six years with the Baltimore Ravens before joining Cleveland last season on a one-year deal. He became the second Brown since 1985 to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
"He brings a maturity, toughness and football temperament to the team that is critical to our success on top of the physical abilities that he possesses." said Browns general manager Phil Savage.
