MIAMI (Reuters) - Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem had surgery on his ankle on Friday and will be sidelined for the rest of the season, the NBA team said.

Haslem, 27, had the 90-minute operation to remove a large bone spur in his left ankle, the Heat said, adding that he will be in a walking boot and then on crutches before starting his rehabilitation.

A 6-foot-8 five-year NBA veteran, averaging 12 points and nine rebounds this season, Haslem is expected to return to full basketball activity in mid-May.

The Heat have the worst record in the NBA at 12-55.
