Capitals extend Semin's contract by two years
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Russian right wing Alexander Semin has signed a two-year contract extension with the Washington Capitals, the team said on Saturday.
The 23-year-old, who has played for Russia at three world championships, will stay in Washington until at least the end of the 2009-10 season on a deal estimated to be worth $9.2 million by local media.
A native of Krasjonarsk, Semin ranked second for the Capitals last season with career-high tallies of 38 goals, 35 assists and 73 points in 77 games.
He led the team and tied for fourth overall in the league with 17 power-play goals.
The 13th overall pick by Washington in the 2002 NHL draft, Semin has been limited to three games this season because of an ankle injury, posting just one assist.
