Rangers end Tigers' run, Bonderman misses record

DETROIT (Reuters) - The Texas Rangers snapped the Detroit Tigers' seven-game winning streak on Monday with an 8-3 pounding in the American League, ending Jeremy Bonderman's unbeaten run at 17 starts.

Marlon Byrd drove in three runs for the Rangers, who scored four runs in the third inning off Bonderman, who last lost to Minnesota on September 10.

Bonderman (8-1) gave up four runs, two earned, on seven hits with a season-high nine strikeouts over seven innings.

However, Bonderman also walked four, matching the total in his last four starts combined, and made a key error in the Rangers fourth inning.

"You can't give teams extra outs," Bonderman told reporters. "I didn't do my job. I take full responsibility for this (loss)."

His 17 starts without a loss was just one start short of the franchise record, set by Bobo Newsom 67 years ago.

Kameron Loe (4-6) pitched a solid seven innings for Texas, allowing two runs on seven hits with two walks and a strikeout for his third straight win.

He had allowed nine runs in just 2 2/3 innings against Detroit on June 7.

Michael Young paced the Rangers' 12-hit attack with three hits and drove in a run, while Byrd also had two hits and scored a pair of runs.

Jerry Hairston Jr. added a two-run homer to key a four-run Texas ninth inning.

Curtis Granderson and Brandon Inge both had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers, who saw their lead in the American League Central cut to one game over the Cleveland Indians.

* C.C. Sabathia pitched a complete game nine-hitter to become the American League's second 11-game winner as the Cleveland Indians beat the Oakland Athletics 5-2. Boston's Josh Beckett also has 11 wins.

* The Chicago White Sox ended their five-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

*The Toronto Blue Jays won their fourth straight game and Roy Halladay won his ninth with an 8-5 win over the Minnesota Twins.
