Braves Glavine out until All-Star break with sore elbow

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Atlanta Braves left-hander Tom Glavine is expected to be sidelined with a sore left elbow until at least the All-Star break in mid-July, the team said on Friday.

An MRI on the elbow revealed a small tear of the flexor tendon that cannot be repaired by surgery.

"Again, there's no specific date, but sometime around the All-Star break or a little thereafter," said Braves General Manager Frank Wren on team's Web site (atlanta.braves.mlb.com).

Glavine, who has registered 305 wins over 22 major league seasons, has had two stints on the disabled list this season, posting a record of 2-3 with a 4.85 ERA in 12 starts.

The announcement was more bad news for the Braves starting rotation after losing John Smoltz to season-ending shoulder surgery on Tuesday.
