Rays sign closer Percival to 2-year deal
MIAMI (Reuters) - The Tampa Bay Rays improved their bullpen on Friday by signing closer Troy Percival to a two-year contract worth $8 million.
The 38-year-old Percival could make up to $12 million based on a series of incentive clauses, the team said.
Percival has 324 saves over his 12-year Major League career, 12th on the all-time list. The right-hander made a comeback with the St. Louis Cardinals last season after missing nearly two full seasons with an arm injury.
He was 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA last season.
Right-hander Al Reyes will become the club's set-up reliever after recording 26 saves with the Rays. Tampa Bay's bullpen had a Major League-worst 6.16 earned run average last season.
