Braves get Vazquez in six-player deal with White Sox

ATLANTA (Reuters) - The Atlanta Braves acquired right-hander Javier Vazquez and reliever Boone Logan from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for four prospects on Thursday.

The key to the six-player deal was Vazquez, an all-star in 2004 with the New York Yankees, who has recorded 10 wins and completed at least 198 innings in each of the last nine seasons.

The 32-year-old, who will earn $11.5 million in each of the next two seasons, went 12-16 with a 4.67 era in 33 starts for the White Sox last season.

In 11 major league seasons, with stops in Montreal, New York, Arizona and Chicago, Vazquez has notched 127 wins with a 4.32 era. His best season was in 2007 when he went 15-8.

"It's a fresh start for me," Vazquez told mlb.com "I've always liked the National League more than the American League.

"Atlanta is one of the places where I really wanted to be here, and I'm happy it happened and I'm looking forward to having a good season for the Braves."

In exchange for the two pitchers, the White Sox get shortstop Brent Lillibridge, catcher Tyler Flowers, third baseman Jon Gilmore and left-handed pitcher Santos Rodriguez.
