Scioscia set for extended stay in charge of Angels

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Los Angeles Angels have reached an outline agreement with Mike Scioscia to extend the manager's contract through the 2012 season, Major League Baseball reported on Monday.

"It's something we've worked on for some time and basically we got it done," Angels general manager Tony Reagins told mlb.com. "It's an agreement in principle and we're not going to release the terms."

Under his existing deal, the 50-year-old Scioscia was under contract through the 2009 season with a club option for 2010.

Scioscia led the Angels to a World Series crown in 2002 and in nine seasons at the helm, has amassed a franchise-record 803 wins against 655 losses.

The Angels have also won the American League West title four times in the past five years.
