NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Denver Broncos have reached an agreement to hire New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their new coach, local media said on Sunday.

McDaniels, 32, would replace Mike Shanahan who was fired on December 30 after 14 seasons as the Broncos' head coach, The Denver Post (www.denverpost.com ) and Rocky Mountain News (www.rockymountainnews.com) reported on their websites.

McDaniels was one of seven NFL assistants to interview for the job, the newspapers said.

He has been with the Patriots for eight years and has worked with quarterbacks Tom Brady and Matt Cassel.
