Johnson has no-hitter for six innings in Giants win

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Veteran pitcher Randy Johnson did not allow a hit for six innings as he led the San Francisco Giants to a 2-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks for his 296th victory on Sunday.

The 45-year-old Johnson (1-2) struck out seven and walked two in seven innings against his former team, with only Augie Ojeda's leadoff double breaking up his no-hitter bid.

Johnson, who has been pitching in the Major Leagues for 22 years, joined the Giants this season after compiling a 118-62 record in eight seasons with the Diamondbacks.

The lanky left-hander denied he had extra motivation to beat Arizona.

"I kind of put blinders on when it comes to certain teams," he told reporters. "Me, I just want to win."

Others said Johnson was more intense than usual.

"He had that little scowl going after strikeouts," said the Giants' Rich Aurilia. "I'm sure he had a little added incentive today."

The Giants scored runs in the fourth and eighth innings for the victory.
