Angels snap Yankees road streak
ANAHEIM, California (Reuters) - The Los Angeles Angels rallied to beat New York 10-6 Friday and halt the Yankees' eight-game road winning streak.
Kendry Morales hit a three-run homer to tie the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning before Erick Aybar powered another three-run shot in the seventh for Los Angeles (47-37).
"In that situation I was as prepared as possible, looking for a certain pitch and I was able to connect," the Cuban-born Morales told reporters via a translator.
"We never think about how many runs we're behind or who we're playing."
Alex Rodriguez went 3-for-5 with a home run to spark New York (51-35) to a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning. Derek Jeter had four hits and committed an uncharacteristic but costly error in the seventh inning.
The Yankees captain dropped a routine catch from Mike Napoli that would have been the second out of the inning. Three batters later Aybar homered to make it 10-6.
Angels starter Joe Saunders pitched five innings and surrendered three runs in the first on his way to a no-decision. Five relief pitchers finished the job for the Angels including Brian Fuentes, who recorded his 25th save of the season.
The Yankees' Joba Chamberlain lasted into the fifth inning, giving up five runs.
"We need to get a better handle on our starting pitching to where we don't have to try to come from behind to win," said Angels manager Mike Scioscia.
"New York is a good offensive club and they're playing well, so we need to try to do what we can (in the next two games of the series)."
