Ravens tie up Suggs to new six-year deal
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Baltimore Ravens have agreed a six year $63 million contract with outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, the NFL team said Wednesday.
Suggs was heading into the final year of his deal with the team he joined in the first round of the 2003 draft and would have become a free agent at the end of the upcoming campaign.
"Getting a deal done with Terrell is consistent with our history of retaining our best Pro Bowl players, like Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Jonathan Ogden, Todd Heap and Jamal Lewis," Ravens general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome said in a statement.
"Securing Terrell for six seasons gives us a premier pass-rusher whose ability to stop the run does not get enough credit," he added.
Suggs is a three time Pro Bowl selection and is one of the best defensive players in the league with 53 career sacks.
