[BRIEFING.COM] The market's latest attempts to recoup losses has run out of steam. Brief turnarounds in Discretionary and Materials and an Industrial sector inching close to break even gave the market some legs to stand on; but extensive losses in Financials and Energy continue to act as a huge overhang.

The absence of their leadership wipes out more than 30% of the influence on the S&P 500; and with oil prices about to close down about 1.2% near $71.10/bbl and underlying worries that credit conditions could worsen are likely to keep both sectors under notable pressure throughout the rest of the session.
