UPDATE 1-Mexico's Televisa to buy Editorial Atlantida
(Adds details, background)
MEXICO CITY, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Mexico's top broadcaster Televisa said on Monday it has signed a deal to buy Argentine publisher Editorial Atlantida in a move that consolidates its leadership in the magazine industry in Latin America.
Financial terms were not disclosed but media reports earlier this year had put a $60 million tag on the acquisition. Company officials declined to comment further.
Televisa (TV.N) (TLVACPO.MX) said in a note to the Mexican stock exchange that it was purchasing 99.9 percent of Atlantida, which publishes 11 titles from gossip magazines to children's publications.
Atlantida, which also runs an Internet and book publishing business, had a magazine circulation of 12.8 million copies in 2006.
Televisa is the world's top producer of Spanish-language programming. Its publishing unit, Editorial Televisa, has 82 titles across Latin America as well as titles for Hispanic readers in the United States.
Televisa shares were off 0.2 percent at 54.10 pesos while its New York-traded stock slipped 0.29 percent to $24.24.
