China's Lenovo says may build R&D centre in India
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Lenovo Group Ltd (0992.HK), the world's No. 4 computer maker, is evaluating options for setting up a research and development centre in India, company officials said on Thursday.
"We are constantly evaluating opportunities (for a centre)," India managing director Amar Babu told reporters after launching a new range of computers in the fast-growing market.
"When we bump up our business here, may be," Lenovo Senior Vice President Liu Jun added.
The Chinese firm, which in 2005 bought IBM's (IBM.N) loss-making PC arm, has said it would focus overseas investment on emerging markets like India, Brazil, Mexico, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, where computer penetration is low.
