Gemstar files patent suit against Virgin Media

(Reuters) - Gemstar TV Guide International Inc (GMST.O: Quote, Profile, Research) said it filed a lawsuit against British cable television operator Virgin Media (VMED.O: Quote, Profile, Research) alleging infringement of three of Gemstar's European patents.

Gemstar, which produces television programming guides across different media formats, said the lawsuit was filed in the English High Court in the United Kingdom.
