No ratings parade for return of "Heroes"

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - “Heroes” received an underwhelming welcome when the fading freshman returned to NBC’s schedule after a seven-week absence Monday.

The drama, which had been one of the network’s few new hits this season, pulled in 12 million viewers and a 5.3 rating, 13 share among adults 18-49, according to preliminary data released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research -- enough to make it the night’s top show in the coveted demographic.

Still, its haul was down significantly from its season average (14.8 million, 6.6/15) as well as from its last original episode on March 5 (14.9 million, 6.6/15).

It wasn’t alone: CBS’ “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (6.9 million, 2.4/7) and “Two and a Half Men” (12.2 million, 3.9/10) dropped to their lowest demo ratings of the season, and Fox’s “24” (10.3 million, 3.9/9) fell to its lowest ratings ever for a Monday. NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” (10.8 million, 3.3/10) was down 27% from its previous season average at 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” (18.7 million, 4.9/13) was down slightly from last week (18.9 million, 5.1/13), and helped the network skip to a primetime victory in both viewership and adults 18-49. “Dancing” was the night’s top show in viewership and beat “Heroes” head-to-head at 9 p.m.

Nightly averages: ABC (14.1 million, 4.1/11); CBS (11.9 million, 3.8/10); NBC (10 million, 3.9/10); Fox (7.4 million, 2.8/8); and the CW (2.6 million, 1.2/3).
