"Tin Man" is gold for Sci Fi Channel

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Sci Fi Channel’s journey down the yellow brick road paid off big Sunday night.

The first night of the network’s six-hour miniseries “Tin Man,” a surrealistic take on L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” averaged more than 6.3 million viewers from 9-11 p.m., making it the most-watched telecast in network history, according to preliminary ratings data released Monday by Nielsen Media Research. The previous record holder was Part 1 of the 2002 miniseries “Taken” (6.1 million).

“Tin Man,” which was also scheduled to air Monday and Tuesday, stars Zooey Deschanel as the world-weary heroine, DG (a.k.a. Dorothy Gale). Alan Cumming, Neal McDonough, Kathleen Robertson, Raoul Trujillo and Richard Dreyfuss also star.
