LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Damon Wayans is returning to ABC as the star of its comedy pilot "Never Better," playing a guy trying to be a good husband and father despite his somewhat misguided attempts.

He previously starred on the ABC comedy "My Wife and Kids," which ended its five-year run in 2005.

Meanwhile, Piper Perabo and Andie MacDowell are joining another ABC pilot, "Prince of Motor City," a Gothic family soap inspired by William Shakespeare's "Hamlet."

It centers on a young Harvard professor (played by Warren Christie) forced to return to Detroit and take over the family's auto company.

Perabo will play an ex-girlfriend who still has feelings for him. Her recent feature credits include "Because I Said So" and "The Prestige. MacDowell will play his mother.
