NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - National Geographic Channel will lift the lid on King Herod's tomb and will probe the inner workings of the U.S. government in a series of specials set to air next season.

"Herod's Lost Tomb" is slated to premiere in the fourth quarter, when the cable channel will also launch "Expeditions Week," a tentatively titled special in which it will program seven days of primetime exploration from National Geographic.

Other specials include two features on the U.S. government, "Secret Service Files" and "On Board Air Force One."

Additionally, "Blue Whale Mystery" covers the birth of the giant animals, while "Baby Mammoth Autopsy" offers an in-depth look at a perfectly preserved woolly mammoth, and "Cave of the Giant Crystals," will take viewers into a Mexican cave that holds the largest crystals ever seen.
