Applegate stars in ABC amnesia comedy pilot

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Christina Applegate is returning to series television as the star of ABC's comedy pilot "Sam I Am," which centers on a woman who wakes up from a coma with amnesia and has to rediscover her life.

The "Married ... With Children" alumna won an Emmy for her guest-starring role on "Friends." She previously headlined the short-lived NBC comedy "Jesse."

Jean Smart, a two-time Emmy winner for her guest role on "Frasier," has also joined "Sam I Am" as her self-absorbed mother. Jennifer Esposito was earlier cast as the amnesiac's best friend.

Best-selling Irish novelist Cecelia Ahern helped conceive the story for the pilot,
