PBS, "NBC Nightly News" lead Emmy nominations

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - PBS and "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" led the nominations Tuesday for the 29th annual News & Documentary Emmys.

PBS received 38 nominations, far and away the most for any network and all but one in the documentary categories. ABC and CBS followed with 17 nominations each. NBC earned 14 nominations, including 10 for the "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams," the most-nominated program this year.

Other shows with multiple nominations included CBS' "60 Minutes" (nine); ABC's "20/20" (eight); "ABC World News With Charles Gibson" (eight); PBS' "POV" (six); PBS' "America at a Crossroads" (five); PBS' "Nature" (five); CBS' "Sunday Morning" (five); "HBO Documentary Films" (five); "Cinemax Reel Life" (five); WashingtonPost.com; and "National Geographic Explorer" (four).

The awards will be handed out September 22 at the Time Warner Center in New York.
