LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Alan Taylor, who is nominated for an Emmy for directing the pilot of AMC's "Mad Men," will direct HBO's comedy pilot "Bored to Death," starring Jason Schwartzman.

"Bored" centers on a struggling writer in Brooklyn with a drinking problem who decides to emulate his heroes from the novels of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. He poses as a private detective and starts taking cases.

Taylor won an Emmy for his work on "The Sopranos" and most recently directed the pay cable network's drama pilot "1%."

He received a DGA Award this year for his work on the critically praised series "Mad Men."
