"SVU" cop playing ball for Nick TV movie

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - "Law & Order: SVU" cop Christopher Meloni will star in kids cable channel Nickelodeon's first original primetime family TV movie.

"Gym Teacher," which premieres in August, centers on a failed gold-medal contender-turned-gym teacher who vies for the gym teacher of the year award. But standing in his way is an uncoordinated student (Nathan Kress) who happens to be the son of an English teacher (Amy Sedaris) that he falls for. David Alan Grier also stars.

Meloni is best known for his nine-year "L&O" turn as Elliot Stabler, a hot-tempered detective who investigates sex crimes at the NYPD's Special Victims Unit.
