LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - ABC Family is bringing the popular "Samurai Girl" book series for young adults to the small screen.

The cable network has given the green light to a one-hour drama pilot based on the first novel in the series, "Samurai Girl: The Book of the Sword."

The pilot, titled "Samurai Girl," tells the story of Heaven, a teenage girl who straddles the modern world of her life as the adoptive daughter of a wealthy family and the ancient Samurai traditions of her blood ancestors.

Casting will begin immediately. Production is slated for the fall.

The pickup of "Samurai Girl" comes on the heels of ABC Family's pilot order to two comedies: "Happy Campers" and "Roomies." After a promising start, it also recently ordered 10 additional episodes of its new college drama series "Greek."
