LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Melrose Place" is back on the map at the CW, which is riding high with a remake of "Beverly Hills, 90210," the show that begat the 1990s soap.

The plot of the "Melrose Place" remake is still murky. The search is under way for a writer to pen the project.

Just like with the CW's new "90210," Darren Star, creator of both "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Melrose Place," isn't expected to be involved.

"90210," which features "Beverly Hills, 90210" alums Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty reprising their roles alongside a host of new West Beverly Hills High pupils, got off to a strong start and became the first new series this fall to be picked up for a full season.

"Melrose Place," set in a West Hollywood apartment complex, ran on Fox for seven seasons until 1999. Its alumni include Marcia Cross and Doug Savant, who both ended up on Wisteria Lane in "Desperate Housewives," Heather Locklear, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Thomas Calabro.
