EPA says Smurfit-Stone agrees to pay penalty of $325,000
March 15 (Reuters) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) said Smurfit-Stone Container Enterprises Inc. has agreed to pay penalties totalling $325,000 to settle a complaint over alleged clean-air violations at a printing plant.
The company, which makes cardboard and corrugated packaging, has agreed to pay $162,500 to the EPA and $162,500 to the state of Illinois, the EPA said in a news statement.
Smurfit-Stone Container Enterprises is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. (SSCC.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz).
