Japan TOPIX up 2 percent, driven by Nissan
TOKYO, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Japan's broad TOPIX index rose 2 percent by midmorning on Monday, driven by sharp gains in Nissan Motor Co (7201.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and banking shares. Other auto shares also helped lift the market, but Nissan, which was up 10.6 percent after Friday's announcement of a surprise 12 percent gain in quarterly operating profit, was the standout. As of 0116 GMT the TOPIX was up 2.01 percent at 1,605.96. The Nikkei .N225 was up 1.16 percent at 16.697.32.
