Japan Nikkei opens down 0.5 pct at 17,267.07

TOKYO, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei average opened down by 0.5 percent on Tuesday, tracking falls on Wall Street ignited partly by renewed credit concerns.

As of 0002 GMT, the benchmark Nikkei .N225 was down by 100.37 points at 17,257.78. The broader TOPIX index slid by 0.6 percent to 1,646.95.
